THREE UP
Pedro Martinez got a curtain call and tossed five shutout innings in his first Shea Stadium start of 2007 as the Mets swept the Astros 4-1. “I’m going to enjoy every moment … sign as many autographs as I can because it’s not going to last too long,” he said.
Todd Helton’s double helped the Rockies beat the Padres 4-2. He became the first player in history with 35 doubles 10 years in a row. Manager Clint Hurdle: “I’ve always said you get to be great by being good for a long time. He’s been really good for a long time.”
The Red Sox beat the Orioles 3-2, going 6-3 for the season at Camden Yards. Boston has a winning record at Baltimore every season since 1998, going 54-23. Josh Beckett allowed two runs in seven innings for his 18th victory. He yielded seven hits and struck out eight.
THREE DOWN
The Tigers probably will shut down Jeremy Bonderman because of an elbow injury. He was pounded for six runs and seven hits in 1 1/3 innings in a 14-7 loss to the Mariners. Bonderman felt a “sharp pain” and is nervous about Monday’s MRI: “It makes me sick.”
Dontrelle Willis gave up seven runs in three innings as the Phillies beat him and the Marlins 8-5. Willis (8-15) lost for the 12th time in 13 decisions. “I’m sure he’s frustrated,” Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “We haven’t been able to get him on a roll.”
The Orioles placed AL strikeout leader Erik Bedard on the 60-day disabled list with a strained rib muscle. He is 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA and a club-record 221 strikeouts. He had a shot at the Cy Young Award. “It would’ve been great,” manager Dave Trembley said.
