FUNDRAISERS

*The inaugural Barrington Concours D’Elegance: Legends & Legacies will be held Friday through Sunday. Events include a golf tournament at 8 a.m. at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington and a road rally from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with breakfast and registration at 7:30 a.m., Saturday. On Sunday, the Concours D’Elegance classic car exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as a Ride & Drive event sponsored by Porsche and a book signing by photographer Michael Furman at the golf club. VIP tickets cost $75 in advance and $80 on Sunday. General admission tickets cost $25 and $30. Ages 11 and younger are admitted free. The fee is $125 to participate in the road rally. All proceeds will benefit the Barrington Hills Conservation Trust, Cowboy Dreams of Illinois and Hospice of Northeastern Illinois. Visit www.barringtonconcours.org.

*The First Annual Jewelry Faire and sale to benefit Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Baker Memorial Church, 307 Cedar Ave., at Illinois Highway 64 and 4th Avenue, St. Charles. *The South Barrington Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 255 will hold a candlelight bowl at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Brunswick Zone Bowling Alley, 1100 W. Lake St., Roselle. Donation is $25 and includes dinner buffet, bowling and shoes. All proceeds benefit the family of Princess Teagan, the 2-year-old daughter of a South Barrington police officer and Huntley resident who is suffering from brain cancer. Call 847-381-7511.

*The second annual Kids Fight Cancer 5K Walk-A-Thon will be held Sunday at Melas Park, 1500 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Registration, pledge drop-off and continental breakfast will begin at 9 a.m., a warm-up is at 10:30 a.m. and the walk is at 11 a.m. A concert, food and activities will follow until 3 p.m. Register online at www.kidsfightcancer.org or call 847-640-8515.

*The 10th annual Peter R. Tosto Jr. Foundation golf outing will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the McHenry Country Club, 820 N. John St., McHenry. The 18-hole tournament includes lunch, cocktails, dinner and raffles. Tickets cost $300 or $75 for dinner only. Hole sponsorships cost $200. VOLUNTEERS

*Read to Learn will hold training for new volunteer adult literacy tutors from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Rd., Arlington Heights. Call 847-718-7724.

*Volunteers are needed for the fall cleanup along the banks of Salt Creek from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in Rolling Meadows. Meet at the Old Public Works facility, 3200 Central Rd. Volunteers should bring boots, gloves, buckets and saws. Call Sue Walton at 847-397-6181.

*Rich Hyerczyk of the Chicago Lichenological Society will present an introduction to lichens and lead a guided tour from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Alden Sedge Meadow near Alden in McHenry County. *The Knights of Columbus in Des Plaines and Niles will participate in the annual candy drive Sept. 21 to 23 at shopping centers and intersections in the northwest suburbs. MAKING A DIFFERENCE

*The Association for Individual Development, a community-based non-profit organization serving individuals with disabilities in the Fox Valley area, was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from CVS Pharmacy to support its pediatric therapy program.

*The Palatine Fire Department has received a $26,254 grant from Mesirow Financial and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company to purchase critical firefighting equipment and a dispatch alerting system.

*The annual Day at the Races at Arlington Park this summer raised a record $96,000 to benefit Northwest Suburban United Way, which services 18 communities in the northwest suburbs.
