A parent information session and demonstration will be presented by Music for Youth of Arlington Heights at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in Stitt Elementary School, 303 E. Olive St., Arlington Heights. Music for Youth teaches Suzuki-based programs in violin, viola and cello for kindergarten through 8th-grade students living in the district. DISTRICT 54
A craft fair sponsored by the PTA will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Frost Junior High School, 320 W. Wise Rd., Schaumburg. Call 847-357-6800.
District 54 and Alexian Brothers Hospital Network will sponsor a day of races to support literacy beginning at 8 a.m. Sept. 30 at Dirsken School, 116 W. Beech Drive, Schaumburg. A 100-yard dash will be held for children in 1st grade and younger, and a 400-yard dash will be held for children in 6th grade and younger. There will also be a 5K run/walk and a family fun walk. Registration is required. Fees are $10 for junior high and younger, $20 for high school students and adults 60 and older, and $30 for adults. Registration and packet pickup will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. the day of the event. Those who register by Friday may also pick up packets during store hours Sept. 27 to 29 at Dick Pond Athletics in Schaumburg. Sponsorships are also needed. District 59 Special Education Parent Network is sponsoring a parent movie night at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Rupley School, 305 E. Oakton St., Elk Grove Village. The movie “It’s So Much Work to be Your Friend” presents strategies for teaching students with disabilities friendship skills in the classroom, home and community. Open houses will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Conant, Fremd and Hoffman Estates High schools; 7 to 9:15 p.m. in Palatine High School; and 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Schaumburg High School. Open houses will also be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the district’s Lifeskills and Educational Alternatives Program (LEAP) in Streamwood and from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the District 211 Academy-North in Palatine.
