District 34

*The Board of Education recently approved a new regulation for classroom treats for the upcoming school year. All food brought into District 34 schools — for classroom use, parties, birthdays or general treats — must be store-bought, unopened and include an ingredient label on the package. The board also approved the creation of a District 34 Food Allergy Manual.

District 117

*The parenting program “Getting RESULTS” will be 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2 and 16 in Antioch High School, 1133 Main St. Parents will learn how to help students establish and maintain strong study habits. Students may attend with a parent. Call Phyllis Fay at 847-838-7176.

District 76

GREEN OAKS

Oak Grove District 68

*Gokul Krishnan, an 8th-grader at Oak Grove School, is now one of 40 finalists in the 2007 Discovery Channel Young Scientists Challenge. Gokul’s project, “Surviving in Acids and Bases,” set out to investigate the optimal pH level for growing neuroblastoma cells. The finalists will compete for more than $100,000 worth of scholarships and prizes, as well as the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist of the Year,” Oct. 21-24 in Washington.

Big Hollow District 38

*The Board of Education recently voted to continue efforts to sell the now-vacant school campus located at U.S. Highway 12 and Illinois Highway 134. The board also voted to maintain the previously established minimum sale price of $5 million.

Gavin School District 37

*The Board of Education of District 37 is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in Gavin South School, 25775 W. Illinois Highway 134.

LAKE FOREST

*The student production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be staged at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 and 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Lake Forest Academy, 1500 W. Kennedy Rd. Call 847-615-3268.

*Preschool screenings will be offered from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 19 in Sprague School, 2425 Riverwoods Rd., Lincolnshire. The screenings are for children ages 3 to 4 for whom there may be concerns in the areas of gross or fine motor skills, speech/language or conceptual development.
