Over the weekend, rumors of a supposed sex tape of the White Stripes’ Meg White started spreading across the Internet with a link to a video clip. The video, which features a woman who vaguely resembles the Stripes drummer, even led some bloggers to suggest that it may be the reason for the band’s tour cancellation.
When the band nixed its North American tour earlier this month, it said Meg was suffering from acute anxiety and was unable to travel.
The rumor generated enough buzz that the White Stripes’ publicist had to issue a statement.
“Some people have a very twisted sense of humor, and this prank is in particularly bad taste,” the publicist said according to pitchforkmedia.com. “The tape circulating on the Internet as featuring Meg White is fake. It’s definitely not Meg.”
