THREE UP

Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun homered for the Brewers in a 13-5 victory over the Cardinals. Fielder’s 48th was a three-run first-inning blast off Adam Wainwright, while Braun’s 33rd came off reliever Andy Cavazos in the sixth and drove in a pair.

Blue Jays rookie Jesse Litsch, who had been tagged twice by the Yankees, pitched five-hit ball for 7 2/3 innings in a 4-1 win in a rescheduled game. A.J. Burnett (0.60 ERA in 2 starts vs. N.Y.) was the scheduled starter but left the team for “personal business.”

Carlos Silva, a free agent at season’s end, shut down the Tigers over 7 2/3 innings in a 2-0 win, ending the Twins’ seven-game skid vs. Detroit. The Twins (77-79) have won five of seven and are pushing to finish with a winning mark for the seventh year in a row.

THREE DOWN

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey finished with a career-high five walks, one intentional, hit a batter and yielded five hits and seven runs in a 13-4 loss to the Nationals that kept the Mets’ magic number to clinch the NL East at 5. He had won three straight starts.

Angels right-hander Kelvim Escobar won’t make his scheduled start Tuesday in Texas due to shoulder inflammation. He was initially pushed back from Saturday to Monday. The Angels need a healthy Escobar, who is 17-7 with a 3.46 ERA, for the postseason.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and pitcher Mark Mulder had surgery, Molina for torn cartilage in his right knee and Mulder on his previously repaired rotator cuff. Mulder’s was described as a cleanup procedure on an unhealed portion of the rotator cuff.
