It’s the end of an era!
Local hot spot Melvin B’s officially closed Sunday.
The popular beer garden thrived in the Gold Coast for 16 years, and on Saturday night, owners Jack Binyon and Donnie Kruse and friends packed the patio past the usual midnight closing time for one last hoorah.
Locals drowned their sorrows with free shots and then stripped signs off the walls for keepsakes. The popular hangout attracted all kinds of folks, especially celebrities, and last week was no exception.
On Tuesday night, actor Mike Starr shared memories with Kruse and Binyon.
Even the competition couldn’t stay away. Also on Tuesday, Scott and Rande Gerber, owners of Mexx Kitchen at the Whiskey, came across the street with their executive chef, Richard Sandoval, for one last beer.
Saturday night regular Jon Kelley from “Extra” had his final cocktails at the bar he’s frequented over the years.
This past summer alone, celebrities who have visited the bar include Dennis Rodman, NHL stars Chris Chelios and Brett Hull, professional surfer Laird Hamilton, John Cusack and Chelsea Handler.
