We have seen the future–and the light –courtesy of five talented interns from the Harrington College of Design and Design at Home, a nonprofit organization that helps families make the transition from public housing to home ownership.
“We have strong designers with a strong social conscience,” said Erik Parks, Harrington president.
Design at Home hosted the movable-feast fundraiser, “Everything But the Kitchen Sink,” which started with cocktails at Manifesto, moved upstairs for dinner at Bulthaup and ended with dessert on the rooftop garden at Lightology.
The partnership between Harrington and Design at Home benefits new homeowners and gives the interns an opportunity to work with a client and a budget of $2,000.
“We thank the amazing family for letting us in their home and letting us do some fun things,” said Mary Beth Janssen, the faculty member who supervised the Harrington 5’s bold redesign of a client-selected room– the kitchen.
The client, who requested anonymity, lives in a two-story house built in the 1950s.
“The results are beautiful,” the proud first-time homeowner said.
“There are no Jacuzzis, or we would always be at their houses,” said Vicky Kampwerth, an interior design intern.
