– After “The X-Files” ended, I heard that series creator Chris Carter was working on a script for a new “X-Files” movie. What ever became of that? –Dave Jackson, Waterford, Mich.
Apparently, the script is finished or close to it, according to interviews David Duchovny gave recently for his Showtime series “Californication.” The actor said he and Gillian Anderson are committed to reprise the roles of FBI partners Mulder and Scully, but it’s a matter of getting all parties — including the studio, 20th Century Fox, which still hadn’t confirmed the project at this writing — together, since the timing could prove tricky. Showtime has renewed “Californication” for a second season, so that’s also on Duchovny’s work agenda.
– Was Jordana Spiro of “My Boys” ever in a series before? –Beth Johnson, Oklahoma City
She played Annette O’Toole’s daughter in the series version of the modern-bounty-hunter drama “The Huntress” (though Aleksa Palladino had the part in the pilot film), and she was in the cast of the former NBC Saturday-morning sitcom “One World.” Spiro also has made guest appearances on numerous other shows, including “Cold Case,” “CSI: NY,” “JAG,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
– I have enjoyed watching “The Amazing Race,” but I have not seen any ads for it for the new season. Has the show ended? –Malinda Molde, Birmingham, Ala.
It’s just getting a later start than usual. CBS plans to begin broadcasting the 12th round of the globe-spanning competition at midseason. No season-premiere date had been specified as of this writing.
– I’ve noticed lately that the “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” ratings on “Ebert & Roeper” have been omitted. Why? — Sharon Ewing, Fullerton, Calif.
Along with the estate of the late Gene Siskel, Ebert holds the copyright on those expressions in the context of the syndicated movie-review show. At this writing, he was still in negotiations with Disney — the program’s distributor — over his role in the series, the “thumbs up/down” being an aspect of that, in relation to his recent health problems. Ebert insists he never demanded the phrases’ removal during the negotiations.
