Even if you find this show a little too sweet for your taste, consider making an exception for this powerful episode. Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) helps a veteran of the war in Iraq who’s brought some ghosts home with him. David Conrad (left), Camryn Manheim and Jay Mohr star alongside several war veterans making cameos, including two from the Chicago area: Catlin native Tyler Jacob Moore has a speaking role as one of the spirits, and Chicagoan Mike Siembruzch.
2. ‘Friday Night Lights’

Change is good, sometimes. Not so much for Saracen (Zach Gilford), whose seemingly perfect life is slipping away, while Landry’s (Jesse Plemons, above) just keeps getting better, as the new school year begins. Smash (Gaius Charles) tries to keep his head from swelling with all the praise he’s getting, and Tami (Connie Britton) tries to keep hers together as she deals with the challenges of raising a teen and a newborn in this new episode.
3. ‘El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera’
8 p.m., Nickelodeon
A boy must choose whether to use his super powers for good or evil. The cartoon features the voices of Alanna Ubach, Carlos Alazraqui, Eric Bauza, Grey DeLisle and April Stewart.
4. ‘What Not to Wear’
8 p.m., TLC
A 31-year-old philosophy student wears scruffy, mismatched clothes and has never been shopping alone. With Stacy London (left) and Clinton Kelly.
5. ‘America’s Psychic Challenge’
9 p.m., Lifetime
Don’t they already know who’s going to win? A sort of “American Idol” for the clairvoyant, this new series pits four self-described psychics against one another to see who’s the best via a variety of challenges such as matching up married couples or picking the car with the man hidden in the trunk. At the end of each episode, the top two finishers are invited back to face two new challengers the following week.
