* “Heroes” star Ali Larter and her longtime boyfriend, actor Hayes MacArthur, got engaged over the weekend, People.com reports. This will be the first marriage for both. No wedding date has been set.

* Matthew McConaughey cut his face while preparing for his role in “The Grackle,” his publicist said Monday.

* A slew of celebrities saw the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of “August: Osage County” in New York last weekend. Parked in the seats of the Imperial Theatre for the three-plus hours were Kevin Spacey, Paul Rudd, John Stamos, Julia Roberts, Mike Nichols, Bernadette Peters, Stanley Tucci, Maura Tierney and Jessica Lange — as well as Martin McDonaugh, the playwright with whom “August” scribe Tracy Letts is frequently compared.

* Robert Falls, the artistic director of the Goodman Theatre, said Monday that he will now be directing the Goodman’s summer musical, “The Boys Are Coming Home.” This new piece is a retelling of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.” Performances at the North Loop building begin in June.

* What is being billed as the first-ever podcast interview with “Harry Potter” scribe J.K. Rowling will be posted Tuesday morning on TheLeakyCauldron.com, according to the Web site.
