Beloved husband of Joan R., nee Christiansen, for 33 years; dear brother of Virginia (the late George) Thornton, the late Richard (the late Jeanette) Andersen, and the late Mildred (the late Ted) Sora; and brother-in-law of Karen (Edward) Grude; fond uncle of Douglas (Helen) Thornton, Linda (Jake) Bernstein, Hon. Wayne (Hon. Sheila O’Brien) Andersen and Diane (Michael) Zink; great-uncle to 14 and great-great-uncle to eight; cousin and friend of many.
Funeral Prayer Service, Friday 11 a.m. atCumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge.
Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
Glenn was a 1950 graduate of Steinmetz High School in Chicago, enrolled at Wilbur Wright College for 2 years, and received his Electrical Engineering Training with the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
A career employee of the C.T.A., Glenn was largely responsible for the introduction of the stainless steel “L” cars in Chicago.
On loan from the C.T.A., Glenn was first to operate a test car on the San Francisco B.A.R.T. system; past Chairman of the Trolley Coach Subcommittee of the American Public Transit Association; and a past Director of the Illinois Railway Museum (Union/McHenry County, Il) where the Glenn M. Andersen Trolley Bus Garage is dedicated in Glenn’s honor.
