Dick Pierce, 85, a longtime resident of Lisle, IL. At rest, January 14, 2008 at Meadowbrook Manor of Naperville.
He was born September 4, 1922 in Buchanan, MI. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Shirley Pierce; his wonderful children, Sherie Lin (Bob) Huber of Glen Ellyn, IL, Stevie Pierce of Portland, OR, Charlie “Allen” (Linda) Pierce of Davenport, IA, Renee Feldmeier of Lisle, IL and John (Mary) Henderson of Aurora, IL; his special grandchildren, Lindsay Huber, Christofer, Matthew and Alexandria Feldmeier, Jeremy, Corey and Andy Pierce and Gabrielle Henderson; his two cherished great-grandchildren; and his dear sister, Mary Ellen Jones and brother, Gael Pierce.
He was preceded in death by his sister Carol Lamport.
Dick served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from North Central College and taught at Washington Junior High School, District 203, Naperville for over 20 years.
He received the Teacher of the Year Award after Paula Zahn, a former student, wrote a letter praising his abilities.
As a testament to his love of teaching, Dick volunteered for many years as a tutor for Little Friends.
He played the stand-up bass in the Chicago Hot Six jazz band well into his seventies, continued to enjoy flying, playing tennis, writing and taking photographs.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dick’s life on Thursday, January 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at theFriedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill, Naperville.
