Evanston police Wednesday issued a community alert and stepped up patrols around schools after two suspicious incidents this week in which strangers offered a ride to school to two girls.
A student at Kingsley Elementary School, 2300 Green Bay Rd., told police she was walking near Foster Street and Brown Avenue at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday when a car approached and a woman asked if she wanted a ride to school. The girl quickly walked away.
A student at Haven Middle School, 2417 Prairie Ave., told police a couple in a car approached her about 7:45 a.m. Monday as she was walking near Chancellor Street and Broadway Avenue and offered to drive her to school. She refused .
The driver in both incidents is described as a white man, about 50 years old, with salt-and-pepper hair, wearing what was described as work clothing. The passenger is described as a white woman, about 50 years old with grayish hair and glasses.
