They haven’t made much noise in the music world lately, but Avril Lavigne and Victoria Beckham are invading a clothing rack near you. Lavigne recently announced a new line of juniors styles for Kohl’s department stores. Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice, visited the Saks Fifth Avenue downtown last month to show her new clothing line, dVb.
But what distinguishes these two from the many celebrity-owned or -inspired clothing lines in stores? Both Avril and Posh insist the designs are their own. “I actually am the designer,” Lavigne told Newsweek magazine, while Beckham told RedEye during her visit, “There is not a single button or rivet [on the dVb line] that I haven’t tested myself — I have control over absolutely everything.”
Hmm. Two strong-willed singers with fashion lines they say they control completely? Smells like a faceoff to us. Which designer reigns supreme? Let’s get it on!

The pop-rock princess puts her own spin on punk fashion, covering herself in dark eye makeup, hoodies and fishnets or leggings. Lately, she has mixed in a few plaid skirts, an unmistakable sign of maturity.
Posh is a fixture in fashion magazines (she graces the cover of the latest UK Vogue), at fashion shows and generally wherever there’s a group of people whose reality TV shows weren’t renewed after one season. (Checkmark)

Avril — she of the fierce sourpuss — makes no secret of her disdain for the paparazzi. She’s been documented spitting at photographers and flying the occasional one-fingered salute. Roger that! (Checkmark)
Even Posh acknowledges her absolute refusal to smile for the camera. “I’m just not the kind of person who’s going to stand on the red carpet and do a big cheesy grin,” she told RedEye in February. “That’s just the way that I look.”
TOUR OF DUTY
Avril kicked off a world tour earlier this month that is scheduled to hit Allstate Arena on the 21st. Now you can sing along somewhere other than in the shower. Seriously, your neighbors asked us to tell you to cut it out. (Checkmark)
Apparently Spice-mania didn’t just fade away in the late ’90s — it went extinct. The Spice Girls cut short their heavily hyped reunion tour in February. At least they made their Chicago date at the United Center.
SIGNIFICANT OTHERS
The “Girlfriend” singer has a husband, Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley. And while the title of First Family of Canadian Rock may not knock your socks off, it has a certain ring to it.
Hubby David Beckham’s soccer skills aren’t what they used to be, but he remains a superstar athlete and international icon. Also, his name’s easier to spell, so, sorry Deryck — in this case the athlete trumps the rock star. (Checkmark)
