Actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are among the celebrities teaming up with the MoveOn.org political organization to sponsor an “Obama in 30 Seconds” ad contest, in which Obama backers are urged to submit 30-second video spots in praise of their candidate. The best ad will be shown on national television, MoveOn.org says. Others involved in the project: film director Oliver Stone, musician John Legend, author Naomi Wolf, actor Steve Buscemi and activist Jesse Jackson.
Pelosi: No ‘dream team’ with Obama, Clinton
Forget the “dream team,”‘ the speaker of the House says. At least the one with Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. “I think it’s impossible,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday. “I do think we’ll have a dream team. It just won’t be those two names.”
Pulling the lever for Kevorkian?
Now that he’s agreed to not assist in any more suicides, Jack Kevorkian has hit on a new way to get attention: He’s running for Congress. The 79-year-old pathologist, who is on parole after serving 8 years in the death of one of his subjects, told The Oakland Press of Michigan about his plans to run for a House seat from the Detroit suburbs. A spokeswoman for the Michigan secretary of state told The Associated Press that state election law governs only state offices and there is nothing that would prevent Kevorkian from running for federal office.
