Five victims of a Tuesday morning fire in Waukegan remained hospitalized Wednesday.
A 2-year-old girl was in critical condition in Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, fire officials said. The girl’s mother and an aunt were in intensive care at Lake Forest Hospital and Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, and the girl’s grandparents were being treated at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, officials said.
The victims were rescued by Gregorio Delgado, his wife, Maria, and their 14-year-old son, Mauricio. The Delgados live upstairs with their three children in the two-story house at 223 Lincoln Ave., on the city’s south side. They were all treated for minor injuries.
The predawn blaze started in garbage cans outside the house.
