SHOOTING DEATHS: Police found the bodies of three men and a woman Monday who had been shot to death at a Charlotte apartment in a complex plagued by drug and gang activity. The victims had not been identified.
BAD WATER: Alamosa, Colo., officials said Monday they have ruled out wastewater contamination, disgruntled workers and terrorism as sources of salmonella bacteria in drinking water that has sickened 217 people. Disinfecting the system could take three weeks.
DISCLOSURES: New York’s new governor, David Paterson, who disclosed last week that he and his wife committed adultery years ago, said Monday that he used cocaine in his 20s and smoked marijuana when he was younger.
PRISON OOPS: The California corrections department on Monday began investigating how former 1970s radical Sara Jane Olson was released from prison at least a year early. Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said Olson, 61, who was returned to prison, has been “very cooperative.”

SICK SHOPPERS: Wal-Mart has suspended an employee after he and another employee allegedly sprayed each other with pepper spray, causing 16 shoppers to become ill, according to store officials and Nassau County, N.Y., police. Eight were treated Saturday night at hospitals.
