The Dr is in and might have the cure for Axl Rose’s legendary case of procrastination.

Dr Pepper announced it will give a free can of its signature soda to “everyone in America” if Axl’s long-awaited album “Chinese Democracy” is released before the end of 2008, reports billboard.com.

In response, the Guns N’ Roses singer released a statement — and actually praised the company.

“We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album ‘Chinese Democracy,’ as for us, this came totally out of the blue,” the statement said, according to Rolling Stone’s Web site. “If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time.”

In its initial announcement, the soda maker said, “We know once [the album is] released, people will refer to it as ‘Dr Pepper for the ears’ because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds — an instant classic.”

But as for Dr Pepper’s claim that it would withhold the free soda from ex-band members Slash and Buckethead (who toured with GNR), Rose said, “As some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.”
