Movie audiences laid their money down on “21,” the gambling romp that was the weekend’s box-office high roller with a $23.7 million debut, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The numbers added up to a big weekend for stars Kate Bosworth and Jim Sturgess in the movie about math geniuses who make a killing counting cards at Las Vegas’ blackjack tables.
“Horton Hears a Who!” heard its name called in second place after being on top the previous two weekends. Still, with an estimated $17.4 million earned over the weekend, it becomes the first movie this year to see its total pass the $100 million mark.
