THREE UP

Ervin Santana tossed his second career complete game, the last coming against the White Sox in May 2005, in a 4-0 win over the Royals. Santana threw a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts.

Don’t write off David Ortiz yet. After getting off to a very slow start, Ortiz has 10 hits in his last five games, including two in Monday’s 6-3 win over the Tigers. Ortiz added his sixth home run.

Albert Pujols scored the winning run from second base on a groundout in the ninth inning to give the Cardinals a 6-5 win over the Rockies. Pujols slid out of the reach of Yorvit Torrealba’s tag.

THREE DOWN

Jose Guillen went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and left three runners stranded in the Royals’ 4-0 loss to the Angels. Guillen’s average fell to .165. He struck out four times in his last eight at-bats.

Jeremy Bonderman couldn’t stop the Tigers’ slide. Bonderman gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings of work in the Tigers’ 6-3 loss to the Red Sox. His 113 pitches were a season high.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood entered Monday’s start in Seattle trying to change history. Millwood has lost nine straight road games, one away from the team record..
