Cookies from one Mom to another

Tasters loved the visual appeal, rich flavor and tenderness of the gourmet treats from Jennie & Vera’s Cookies, a Barrington-based online bakery from the mother-and-daughter team of Vera Mirkovic and Jennie Nass. They craft the baked-to-order treats, inspired by Mirkovic’s European baking background. Macadamia cappuccino (from left), chocolate spice and Vera’s walnuts (nut-shaped and -flavored cookies with walnut-liqueur filling) are three of the 15 kinds available. A Mother’s Day “LoveYouMom!” collection ($25/dozen) is available through Thursday. Visit jennieandverascookies.com.

For cakes on the move

Bakers will love Wilton’s Cake Lifter. The wide surface and slightly angled rim (designed to slide more easily under cakes) make it a cinch to move those fragile layers. It’s 10-by-12-inches wide and dishwasher-safe. It costs $10 at Michael’s stores and the Wilton store, 7511 Lemont Rd., Darien.

Dressed for cooking success

We loved the whimsy and attractive design of Anna Maria Horner’s “Breakfast” cotton canvas apron from Peking Handicraft, especially the pretty neckline and embroidered pockets. It’s $20 and available online, with a variety of other cute styles, at annamariahorner.com (click on “gifts”).
