Matt Garza pitched seven scoreless innings, helping the Rays beat the Yankees 7-1 for their fifth straight win. Only one baserunner reached second base against Garza, who allowed five hits.

Odalis Perez’s hitting helped him earn his first win of the season. Making his ninth start without a victory, Perez had three hits and two RBIs and pitched into the seventh as the Nats beat the Mets 10-4.

Ryan Braun hit two home runs for the second game in a row, helping the Brewers beat the Cardinals 8-3. He hit his eighth and ninth homers of the season. The 2007 rookie of the year hit 34 last season.

THREE DOWN

Catcher Yadier Molina was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the fifth inning in Milwaukee. He protested by taking off his gear and leaving it in a pile at the feet of plate umpire Paul Schrieber.

Clay Buchholz gave up seven runs on eight hits and five walks in 41/3 innings in a 7-3 loss to the Twins. Over his last two starts, he has surrendered 18 hits and 12 runs in just 81/3 innings.

Righty John Van Benschoten gave up seven runs and nine hits over four-plus innings in an 8-1 loss to Atlanta, then was optioned to Triple A. He is 1-12 with an 8.84 ERA in 21 career big-league games.
