With the price of gasoline rising almost daily, driving to work may no longer be your best bet. To help you gauge the impact on your pocketbook, the Business section each Monday will pick a suburb and calculate the cost of the drive to downtown Chicago, assuming there’s minimal traffic.

The figure is based on the average price of regular gas in Chicago as of Friday and a vehicle that gets 22 miles per gallon.

Schaumburg: About 30 miles

With an average gas price of $4.14, the one-way trip will cost you $5.65. A one-way train ride on Metra’s Milwaukee District-West Line would cost $4.75.
