Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Sometimes you have to wonder about the bright minds that run the nation’s wireless carriers. Amid all the talk about using a phone to surf the Web, send e-mails, watch TV or listen to music, they seemingly have forgotten why people use a mobile phone.

That would be to make calls.

To that end, AT&T Inc. on Tuesday released the Pantech Breeze — a breeze to use, get it? The press release calls it a phone for an “important niche,” “adults needing an easy-to-use cell phone.”

The Breeze is targeted at seniors and features bigger keys for dialing, a large button to turn on the speakerphone and three dedicated keys for programmable numbers.

AT&T calls it an “uncomplicated” phone.

Uncomplicated is not a niche.
