Curtis Granderson is showing signs of regaining his 2007 form. The UIC grad extended his hitting streak to 15 with a 4-for-5 night, which included two triples and three runs scored, in the Tigers’ 7-1 victory over the Rockies.
Jair Jurrjens threw eight innings of three-hit ball in the Braves’ 4-0 victory over the Blue Jays. Jurrjens improved to 8-3 and dropped his ERA to 2.94. He has allowed just three earned runs in his last 212/3 innings.
Rookie Evan Longoria homered for the third straight game as the Rays beat the Pirates 10-5. Longoria, who was 4-for-5 with three runs, has homers in four of his last five games with 11 RBIs in the stretch.
THREE DOWN
Jimmy Barthmaier had a forgettable major-league debut as the Pirates’ right-hander gave up seven runs on seven hits in 21/3 innings against the Rays, who were 7-for-14 with two walks against him.
Pedro Martinez gave up six earned runs in his second straight start as the Mets were pounded by the Yankees 9-0 in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Martinez pitched 52/3 innings, allowing six hits and five walks.
Ken Griffey Jr. struck out three times against C.C. Sabathia and stayed mired a slump as the Reds lost to the Indians 6-0. Griffey is 5-for-39 (.128) with 13 strikeouts in his last 12 contests.
