Thousands of people have rioted in a county in southwest China, setting fire to government buildings and overturning cars in angry protests over officials’ handling of the death of a local teenage girl, according to a human-rights group, state news media and video of the events.
The protests Saturday in Guizhou province were over the allegedly shoddy probe of the reported rape and murder of the 16-year-old. Videos posted on YouTube showed protesters watching as fires engulfed a government building.
