Andy Pettitte outdueled All-Star Scott Kazmir, pitching eight innings of four-hit ball as the Yankees defeated the Rays 5-0. He threw 114 pitches to reach the 10-win mark for the 13th time in his 14-year career.

Miguel Cabrera homered twice on a 4-for-4 night as the Tigers surged to a 9-2 win over the Indians. Cabrera capped a four-run third inning with a two-run shot and added a solo blast in the seventh.

Brandon Webb earned his major-league-leading 13th victory with another solid start as he threw six innings, scattering six hits and striking out six as the Diamondbacks defeated the Nationals 2-0.

THREE DOWN

All-Star Tim Lincecum had one of his worst outings of the season, giving up four runs on nine hits in six innings as the Giants fell to the Mets 7-0. Lincecum also allowed two homers in his first loss since April 29.

Twins reliever Matt Guerrier was charged with three runs in the Red Sox’s four-run eighth inning in a 6-5 loss. Guerrier allowed four hits, including Manny Ramirez’s game-tying, two-run homer.

Nationals starter Odalis Perez was ejected in the third inning against the D’backs when he argued a balk call by umpire Angel Hernandez. An enraged Perez charged at Hernandez, who quickly tossed him.
