Severe overnight storms damaged about 100 trees in Chicago, primarily in the Ravenswood neighborhood, and left thousands without power, officials said Saturday.

Tree damage was heaviest in the area bounded by Foster, Montrose, Western and Ashland Avenues and in the vicinity of Sunnyside and Western Avenues, near Wells Park, said Matt Smith, spokesman for the city’s Streets and Sanitation Department.

Lightning, rain and high winds knocked out power to more than 25,000 ComEd customers, mostly in Rockford and DeKalb, a ComEd spokesman said. Several thousand more were without service in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
