AMERICAN LEAGUE

Angels: Kelvim Escobar had right shoulder surgery Tuesday in New York. Mets team doctor David Altchek repaired Escobar’s posterior labrum.

Blue Jays: Pitcher Dustin McGowan had surgery Thursday to repair fraying of the labrum in his right shoulder and is expected to be healthy in time for spring training.

Mariners: Jose Lopez extended his hitting streak to 18 games with an eighth-inning single.

Tigers: Todd Jones was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Jones, who recently lost his closer’s job, has inflammation in his right shoulder. … Justin Verlander’s career 6.51 ERA vs. Cleveland is his highest against any team. … RHP Kyle Farnsworth, acquired from the Yankees for All-Star C Ivan Rodriguez, is expected to join the Tigers on Friday in Tampa Bay.

Orioles: Daniel Cabrera was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing a pitch at Alex Rodriguez’s head in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday night.

Rangers: SS Michael Young was back in the Texas lineup after missing Wednesday night’s start due to a fractured right ring finger. … DH Milton Bradley sat out his second straight game with a strained left quadriceps muscle. Manager Ron Washington said Bradley might be available to pinch-hit Friday night against Toronto. … Josh Hamilton was the DH for the second straight night as Washington gave the slugger another break from playing the outfield.

Yankees: Edwar Ramirez was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing his first pitch over Orioles Kevin Millar’s head during the top of the seventh inning on Wednesday. … Traded shortstop Alberto Gonzalez to the Nationals for pitcher Jhonny Nunez on Thursday. … Signed free agent Victor Zambrano, who has been working out at their minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. The right-hander was last in the major leagues in 2007, when he pitched in 13 games for Toronto and Baltimore. He is 45-44 with a 4.64 ERA.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Astros: Designated right-hander Chad Paronto for assignment to clear roster space for right-handed reliever LaTroy Hawkins.

Marlins: Acquired left-hander Arthur Rhodes from the Mariners for minor-league right-hander Gaby Hernandez. … Optioned INF Robert Andino to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room for left-handed reliever Rhodes.

Nationals: Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman left Thursday night’s game with the Phillies after getting hit in the right hand by a pitch from Philadelphia’s Kyle Kendrick.

Padres: Shortstop Khalil Greene has a broken left hand and could miss the rest of the season, manager Bud Black said. After fouling a ball off his shin and then striking out in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday night, Greene hit something in the tunnel between the dugout and clubhouse with his left hand, Black said.
