THREE UP
The Braves’ Jorge Campillo is 3-0 in his last five starts after seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Brewers. Campillo struck out six with no walks. Milwaukee’s nine-game road win streak ended.
Xavier Nady had a career-high six RBIs to lead the Yankees to a 14-9 win over the Angels. It included Nady’s first home run since coming over from the Pirates. Nady added a single and a double.
Greg Maddux pitched six innings for win No. 352. He gave up one run on two hits and retired the last 10 batters he faced in the Padres’ 4-1 win over the Giants, snapping their four-game losing streak.
THREE DOWN
Jim Leyland on his Tigers: “You don’t want to be in the hunt, go home. … We should be embarrassed. I’m not sure enough people are.” And that was before the Tigers lost 6-5 in 10 innings to the Rays.
The Angels made four errors, blew a five-run lead and gave up a franchise- record 10 unearned runs in a 14-9 loss in New York. “We didn’t get it done,” Mike Scioscia said. “We played a poor game.”
Johnny Cueto continues to struggle. The Reds rookie gave up four first-inning runs in a 4-2 loss to the Nationals. Cueto’s ERA over his last six starts is 5.83. His last win came back on July 3.
