GOVERNOR’S WIFE HURT: Gayle Manchin, the first lady of West Virginia, is recovering from bruises after she was struck by a car Sunday while riding a bicycle with her husband, Gov. Joe Manchin, in Charleston. A spokeswoman for the governor says the first lady was taken to a hospital but then went home.
NAACP CONTRACT: The NAACP’s national board of directors has approved a three-year contract for new President Ben Jealous, the youngest leader in the civil rights organization’s history. The contract takes effect Sept. 15.
