Ahn Trio:
The three vibrant and talented Korean American sisters who make up this classical piano trio wrap up Ravinia’s 2008 season with a program of works written for them by living composers. Receiving their Chicago premieres are Kenji Bunch’s “Danceband” and Nikolai Kapustin’s “Divertissement.” Music of Ronn Yedidia and David Balakrishnan rounds out the concert. 7 p.m. Sun.; $25-$40, $10 lawn. Chicago Chamber Musicians:
Guest pianist Meng-Chieh Liu joins the ensemble as it launches its 22nd season. Brahms’ wonderful Piano Quartet No. 1 shares the bill with Mendelssohn’s Sextet for piano and strings, and Arnold Cooke’s “Arioso and Scherzo.” 7:30 p.m. Sun.; $16-$40, $10 students. Chicago Folks Operetta:
Now here’s a real rarity. Leo Fall’s charming, tuneful if obscure Viennese operetta, “The Girl in the Train” (1908), receives what in all probability is its Chicago premiere, courtesy of this local professional troupe. The show is sung in a new English translation, with Mark Bilyeu presiding at the piano and Ban Lasser directing. If you adore Lehar’s “The Merry Widow,” you’ll no doubt love “Girl.” 7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun. (through Sept. 21); $25 adults, $22 seniors. Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave.; 312-902-1500, chicagofolksoperetta@gmail.com.
