GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: No. 3 Joliet Catholic defeated No. 7 St. Charles East 25-15, 25-19 in the championship match to win the Mizuno Scholastic Cup. Annemarie Hickey was named tournament MVP. … Crystal Lake Central won all five of its matches to take first at its own invitational. Coach Doug Blundy reached a milestone with his 700th career victory. His 702-175 overall record gives him the ninth-most wins in state history.

CROSS-COUNTRY: Bartlett sophomore Alyssa Schneider won the 3-mile West Aurora Stampede in 17 minutes 25 seconds, beating defending state runner-up Kelly Whitley of Geneva by 11 seconds. The Vikings still took the team title 73-85 over Sandburg. Andrew Nelson crossed the line in 14:49 to lead the Geneva boys, who placed five runners in the top seven for their own team title. … Schaumburg’s Pat Lesiewicz (14:54) and Colette Falsey (17:45) won the boys and girls titles at the Sterling Invitational. The Saxons girls won the team title, while Neuqua Valley took the boys crown. … Lake Park’s Lindsay Flanagan (17:00) and Lake Zurich’s Gerardo Perez (14:49) won the girls and boys races at Wheeling.

GIRLS TENNIS: Lake Forest swept through the North Suburban Tournament, earning titles at all five levels without losing a set. Leading the way were Katie Zordani at first singles and Nicole Lipp and Kathleen Saltarelli at first doubles.

GIRLS SWIMMING: Hinsdale Central cruised to three relay victories to win the St. Charles North Invitational. North’s Angie Chokran (200 IM, 100 breast) and Homewood-Flossmoor’s Anna Dobben (50 free, 100 free) were the meet’s double winners. … New Trier dominated the St. Charles East College Events Invitational,

scoring 393.5 points to Lake Forest’s 237.5 points.

GOLF: Payton’s girls team will make history Tuesday, becoming the first Public League school to compete in sectional competition. Regional runner-up Blake Murphy and the Grizzlies face a tall order as state-title contenders Homewood-Flossmoor and Loyola lead the field at St. Ignatius. … Monday’s Class 3A boys Glenbrook South section is loaded at the top, with defending champs St. Viator and a deep New Trier team leading a tough field.
