*Edgar Renteria accepted a two-year, $18.5 million deal with the Giants to replace 11-time Gold Glove shortstop Omar Vizquel. The five-time NL All-Star returns to the National League, where he has spent 11 of his 13 seasons.
*The Cardinals acquired Khalil Greene from the Padres for two minor-league pitching prospects.
*The Dodgers have had extensive talks about acquiring the Pirates’ Jack Wilson, but his $7.25 million salary is a sticking point.
*The Tigers, who let Renteria go, are in discussions for free agent Adam Everett, who played only 48 games for the Twins last year because of a shoulder injury.
*Extra innings: Reliever Jorge Julio agreed to a one-year, $950,000 deal with the Brewers. … Federal prosecutors dropped four counts of lying to a grand jury against Barry Bonds. He still faces 10 counts of making false statements plus an obstruction of justice charge. … Last season’s average salary was $2.93 million, the players association said in its annual report. The Yankees led in average salary ($6.86 million) with the Cubs second ($4.68 million) and White Sox fourth ($4.5 million).
