“It’s like watching paint dry.” But who really has time to watch the paint dry? Probably not even the painters.
In this week’s Magazine about home renovations, we get the scoop from two of our Tribune colleagues, husband and wife, who not only painted but also did everything else themselves as they renovated their Humboldt Park two-flat.
As journalists and new homeowners, reporter Ofelia Casillas and photographer Michael Tercha asked lots of questions (usually about the best prices) as they went through the process. Their best advice: Have patience. Their biggest annoyance: Countless people who suggested that they blog about their experiences.
“At the end of the day, the last thing we wanted to do was dwell on our mistakes or relive accidental success,” Ofelia laughs. “Besides, what is more torturous — hanging drywall for three weeks or blogging about hanging drywall for three weeks?”
