Acting in quick succession, the House and Senate approved budgets late Thursday night drawn to President Obama’s specifications and pointing the way toward major legislation later this year.

YouTube leads to arrests

Police in Waterville, Maine, say seven teens and young adults have been arrested after a video was posted on YouTube that showed them setting off Molotov cocktails inside a vacated building and then rolled credits naming those involved.

Hepatitis outbreak

New Jersey officials on Thursday advised nearly 3,000 people who share a doctor to get tested after five cancer patients who visited the physician’s offices in Toms River and Manchester were found to have hepatitis B.

‘Turning point’

Concluding his first international summit in London, President Obama hailed agreements at the emergency meeting of world powers Thursday as a “turning point in our pursuit of global economic recovery.” But he cautioned, “There are no guarantees.”

Adoption backing

Malawi’s child welfare minister is backing Madonna’s bid to adopt a second child from the impoverished southern African country. That high-level endorsement came Thursday in Lilongwe, a day before a judge is to rule on Madonna’s request to adopt Chifundo “Mercy” James.
