Bill Murray backed up his initial movie success in “Meatballs” by playing a wry recruit in director Ivan Reitman’s (“Ghostbusters”) very funny 1981 military comedy. Harold Ramis portrays his best buddy, who decides to enlist with him, and Warren Oates is cast as their strict sergeant. John Candy also appears memorably as an enlistee who wants to be “a lean, mean fighting machine.”
