We’re keeping an eye on Jay Cutler during his first Bears training camp.

Undercover QB: If you didn’t recognize Cutler’s laser passes Thursday at Olivet Nazarene, you might have had a hard time knowing who he was. Cutler wore the white No. 54 jersey that Brian Urlacher usually wears. All of the Bears players swapped jerseys as part of the team tradition for the last day of camp.

Light day: In a practice that wasn’t much more than a walk-through, Cutler had a few nice passes. On a goal-line play, he threw a touchdown to tight end Greg Olsen. He also threw a nice pass to Olsen over the deep middle and connected with Earl Bennett on a deep post.

Guests of the QB: Cutler hosted three kids with juvenile diabetes from La Rabida Children’s Hospital as part of the Touchdown for Diabetes program. A pharmaceutical company affiliated with the program was filming some of the activity for a Web documentary.

That’s a wrap: Now that training camp officially is over, offensive coordinator Ron Turner evaluated what Cutler accomplished since camp began 21 days ago. “We needed to get out here and just practice, get reps,” Turner said. “He got a lot of work with the receivers and made a lot of progress. It’s still a work in progress. We need to get more live-game reps. As we do it hopefully will start to come together more. … He’s not thinking as much and he knows where to go more. When something is called he knows better why it’s called. That’s still not where it will be, but it’s coming.”
