The only man convicted in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 returned home to Libya to die after he was released from a Scottish prison Thursday. President Obama said the Scottish decision to free terminally ill Abdel Baset al-Megrahi on compassionate grounds was a mistake.
Persistence pays off
A New Zealand man who promised his wife he would find his wedding ring after it fell into the capital’s murky harbor has succeeded — 16 months later. Ecologist Aleki Taumoepeau tossed an anchor overboard to mark the spot and pledged to his wife of three months that he would find it.
Naked passenger arrested
Authorities say a St. Louis-bound Southwest Airlines flight was forced to return to Oakland International Airport after 21-year-old passenger Darius Chappile of Oakland stripped, hit another passenger and fought with crew members.
Porn makers criticized
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation says it plans to file complaints against 16 porn production companies for filming unprotected sex. The group alleges the unprotected sex in the films demonstrates unsafe behavior in a California workplace. It says its contentions are evident in numerous adult films.

Someone must have really needed some socks. A southern Arizona man is out a dozen pairs of socks after someone sneaked into his backyard early Monday and stole 12 pairs of socks off a clothesline. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carol Capas said the lost and damaged property totaled about $50.
