Fewer Labor Day vacations
Fewer people will take a vacation this Labor Day weekend than last year, though cheaper gasoline and an abundance of special holiday deals still promise to make it a busy weekend at airports and on the highway, auto club AAA said Wednesday. AAA estimated that 39.1 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home between Sept. 3 and Sept. 7 as part of a survey of 1,350 American households. That’s six million fewer travelers than last year, but it’s more than the number of travelers who took to the roads from 2004 to 2007. AP
‘Twilight’ hits the road
Thousands of “Twilight” fans turned up at Comic-Con International in San Diego this year to hear about “New Moon,” the next film in the series. Now Creation Entertainment and Summit Entertainment are giving them a convention — actually conventions — of their own. Three-day weekend fan conventions will tour the U.S. and internationally over the next three years, with 20 stops already announced, including in Chicago on Oct. 2-4 and June 25-27. The conventions will feature clips from the coming movies, panel discussions, photo opportunities, contests and parties. For more, go to twilightconvention.com. L.A. TIMES
