JT wins for causes celebre
Apparently JT is also Bringin’ Charity Back.
The Daily Beast’s Celebrity Impact Rankings, a number-crunching exercise to determine which celebrities earned the most dollars toward their favorite causes, puts Justin Timberlake at the top of a 50-celebrity list, easily outpointing such well-known do-gooders as Bono and Madonna.
The Daily Beast used a complicated system that included personal donations and also calculated the dollar value of every major-media mention and online presence linking the celebrity with his/her pet cause.
(Justin Timberlake does work for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. That mention alone just upped his impact by another $35,000.)
Their surprising results? The Beast pegs Timberlake’s impact at more than $9 million, well ahead of Madonna’s $5.5 million for Raising Malawi and Pamela Anderson’s $4.8 million for PETA. On the other hand, celebs such as Paris Hilton, the Beast says, “barely make enough of a dent to justify sending a limo over.”
It’s worth noting that the Daily Beast’s numbers considered only a celebrity’s primary charity. That might have been a disadvantage to celebs who raise money for multiple good causes.
Other names in the top 10 were Bono, George Clooney, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, Shakira and Oprah Winfrey.
