An autopsy today on the body of a newborn girl found Friday evening in an apartment on the Far North Side was inconclusive, but state officials are not investigating it as a possible abuse case.
About 6:30 p.m. Friday police were called to a building in the 6100 block of North Sheridan Road by a woman who said there was a baby in need of medical attention in an apartment there, according to police.
When police arrived they found the unresponsive baby, who police said appeared to be about 1 or 2 days old.
Police were conducting a death investigation and an autopsy conducted today was inconclusive, pending further studies.
But officials from the state Department of Children and Family Services were not investigating the baby’s death as a possible abuse case today, a spokesman said.
A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office said the baby girl — identified only as Baby Molina — was listed as being born on Thursday. The girl appeared to be premature, and the body was found in a closet.
