Bolingbrook police report that two people recently bilked a shopper out of $8,000 in a lottery-cashing scam.
The first offender approached the victim at a store, asking for help cashing a winning lottery ticket. A second offender, pretending not to know the other offender, confirmed the ticket was good. The victim then took both offenders to a local bank branch, where he withdrew $8,000 toward purchasing the ticket, police said.
The victim then drove to a second location for additional money, briefly leaving the two strangers and the $8,000 in his car. When he returned, the offenders, his money and his cell phone were gone.
