Center fielder Alex Rios dropped a fly that led to two unearned runs in the first. Ten-time Gold Glove Award winner Andruw Jones, playing left, nailed Tony Gwynn Jr. trying to stretch a single into a double.

Second baseman Gordon Beckham welcomed a day off. Beckham said he felt tired, but two scouts noticed Beckman’s relay throw to home plate Tuesday wasn’t strong.
