To guard against vehicle damage from potholes:

*Keep all tires properly inflated.

*Leave enough space between your vehicle and the one in front so you can watch for potholes.

*If you can’t avoid a pothole, slow down: Higher rates of speed increase the likelihood of damage, especially on a curved roadway.

*When driving on a particularly pockmarked road, hold the steering wheel firmly to avoid losing control.

*Don’t brake when driving directly over a pothole. This shifts the car’s weight to the front of the wheel and can increase damage.

*Be on the lookout for water that might be hiding a deep pothole.
