An 18-year-old Oak Lawn woman was charged with battery last week after she beat up an 11-year-old girl in Memorial Park at 103rd Street and Major Avenue in Oak Lawn, police said.
Ruqieh M. Sheikh, of the 5800 block of West 89th Place, was arrested after several witnesses told police that Sheikh struck the girl in the face, causing her to fall down, then punched her repeatedly in the back of the head, police said. According to the police report, Sheikh was in the park with a group of younger girls who began swearing at the 11-year-old girl before Sheikh started the physical fight.
