In the April 14 “Chicagoland Extra ? ? Local Voices,” Mr. Krouwer wrote “high school students are not taught about investing or managing money. A mandatory course on this subject would help this problem.” Our family thought this was our responsibility and thus handled this portion of our children’s education. None of them learned about this in school and all of them know how to “save, invest and manage their finances.” Making a course mandatory does not mean that all students will even learn the appropriate skills.
