An object resembling a hand grenade discovered in an alley on the South Side late this afternoon was found not to be dangerous, police said.
Police were called to the 6800 block of South Wood Street about 5:45 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
Photos of the object taken at the scene showed it appeared to be a hand grenade or dummy hand grenade.
Chicago Police Bomb and Arson explosives investigators found the object not to be dangerous, Zala said.
