You know an action sequence was intense when onlookers near the film set are cheering after it’s done.

That’s what happened inside the

Corner Bakery

on Wacker Drive on Monday. Customers, many of whom came in specifically to get a front row view of “Transformers 3” filming, let out a chorus of “woos” once the shoot ’em up battle scene ended.

The scene lasted around 30 seconds and featured soldiers coming out of various hiding places, including a flipped over CTA bus, with guns blazing to shoot whatever it was in front of them (I assume they were trying to take something big down judging by the way their guns were pointing).

Adding to the excitement were the explosions going off in the middle of the action. The sound of the explosions, combined with the sound of rapid gunfire, had the windows at Corner Bakery rattling. According to a production assistant working with the film, the guns (maybe M-16 rifles?) were real and shooting blanks.

In addition to the flipped over bus, the war zone on Wacker included a taxi with “Evanston Taxi Company” on one of its doors and a debris-covered fire truck with “East Chicago Fire Dept.” on one of its doors.

“Transformers 3” will continue shooting on Wacker through Wednesday. The area between Michigan Avenue and Wabash has been closed off for the shoot and will re-open Thursday at 5 a.m. Michigan was back to normal Monday — and wreckage free — after it was closed off for filming over the weekend.
